My family has used these things for years ( the spiral bound edition is very convenient the way it opens up flat).It might take some digging to find just what you're looking for and I'm not always clear on how to rate a coin but the Red Book probably has everything you've got and more.I've noticed that coin prices vary from year to year, you might want to buy a new book pretty often if you collect much. I haven't tried to figure out just why but just because your coin was on page…in '18- doesn't mean that's the page to find it on in '19. These books are worth having around if you've got a number of older coins in your possession.This book has the prices you'll pay a dealer.…the Blue book has what they'll pay you.
It has been decades since I've looked at one of these books. One of the first things I noticed when I looked at the ratings for this book was that there were a lot of 1, 2 and 3 star reviews. After looking through the book and reading through the complaints again I have had to change my review. The coins that people were complaining about and saying were not in book are in fact in the book.
Very disappointed the Silver Eagle Values are not in the 2019 book considering these are very popular coins. In addition the values for American Eagle Gold Bullion Coins, Silver Bullion Coins (ATB Five ounce Coins) and Platinum Coins are missing as well. This is why we buy this book to determine the values of our collections. If this trend continues, perhaps one would be better off to buy this book every other year or every five years. Certainly not worth the money spent when the 2018 version contains this information.
There are some changes to note in this year's edition.Bullion coins are mentioned, but if you want to know about dates and values, you are referred to the mega book instead.Just 1 example
I am happy with this, but then I am inexperienced with the collecting of coins and a beginner at it. But at least I get an idea of what currency is worth, now to figure out what the grading of them is all about and time will help with that.
I am not a coin collector, just wanted to value some coins I own.I found the book very interesting and helpful. I really liked it.However the book is very messy. When they cut the holes for the binder, they must have had a problem. I just keep getting paper flakes falling out, making a mess on my floor.My suggestion would be to use this book over a dinner plate to collect the debris falling out.Otherwise, I like the book.
Disappointed in the latest edition. I collect Silver Eagle dollars. The new edition gives a generic $20 value to all uncirculated silver eagles. The older editions gave different values based on year circulated! Just more silver and gold price manipulation.
I must be honest I haven't purchased a red book in a very long time I think the last time I purchased one was in 2016 I must say that the book has increasing volume and size obviously because of the new currency and coins that are coming out my issue is that the prices are always out of date by time of purchase slash publication but for a beginner it's a good reference tool
