I am writing this review at the request of the author who is giving me a chance to win a prize in exchange for purchasing, reading, and reviewing his book.As someone who reads quite a bit about management and maximizing the potential of oneself and others, I found this book interesting and thought-provoking. However, if you have read Drucker, Gladwell, Rath etc. you will find much of this book's assertions to be familiar.Essentially, the book outlines a feedback system for lower level employees to help make them feel like they are equal partners in a company/organization. Randhawa reviews research that explains what motivates people to contribute and excel and how a feedback system such as his could help increase employee engagement.I gave the book 4 Stars because I think that it could fall on a spectrum ranging from 3 to 5 depending on the reader.3 Stars - For someone who has done a lot of reading in the genre and is not at the top level of management, the book is mostly review. If the reader has a good relationship with his/her company manager/president, then this is something they could suggest to that person. Since the book is reasonably priced, it is a worthwhile addition to one's management library.4 Stars - For someone who hasn't read very much in the genre,is interested in becoming a manager, and wants to help their business thrive in the future.5 Stars - For someone who finds themselves in a key leadership position in a mid-sized or large organization but, (for whatever reason) has limited exposure to management literature/training. This book would be an excellent first step to help get a quick overview on how to move away from a hierarchical mindset to a team mindset.
Modern HR advice is filled with recommendations that you improve employee engagement or that engaged employees are happier, more productive and less likely to leave the organization. At the same time, innovation is held out as the ultimate driver of growth and customer value. Out of those 5, which actually invented the product or service that made them successful?Q3 For each of the 5, can you list at least three or more qualities that made them innovative?Q4 Of the qualities listed above, which can you bring to your company, or improve on to deliver stronger customer value?As difficult as Q4 would be if you brainstormed qualities to enhance customer value, it is easy when you start by thinking about organizations you admire, why you admire them, and how you can apply those ideas to your own organization.The Bright Idea Box provides a systematic approach to engaging employees through improvements in your own company's innovation process and is recommended for managers looking to enhance both in their their organization.
Innovation and employee engagement are terms that most people don’t hear very often if at all. After reading Jag Randhawa’s The Bright Idea Box, I almost wish I worked in a company that uses his ideas on employee engagement or I wished I was a CEO so that I could implement these ideas. They are that good. But since I am neither an employee nor a company executive I will have to resign myself to just highly recommending his book to the people I know who are.So, whether you are an employee or executive, you will find this book so beneficial to you and your company that you will want to send a book (after you read it, of course) to your boss (unless you are the boss) so that your own employment experience will be much more rewarding.If you are a CEO, you will want to start a program of employee engagement as laid out in The Bright Idea Box so that your company can reach levels of success that you always dreamed about.And the great part about Jag’s book is that he makes your dream easy to attain because the information on how to engage your employees is so well done.My final thought for you is to take the bull by the horn and do whatever it takes to get your company on board with these ideas. Read the book yourself, recommend it to your boss or even better, buy it and give it to your boss. The consequences of doing this will benefit you immensely. You will be happier at work, you will always have a job as your company will thrive, you will prosper along the way with your company and you will have the satisfaction of knowing you have made a difference in many people’s lives. Can you think of anything better than this?

Randhawa has skillfully combined his business experience with extensive research to come up with a resource that is the rare mixture of succinct and complete.The jumping off point of course is about innovation and employee engagement. Randhawa elegantly guides us through his distinctive understanding of innovation and what drives companies and their employees to innovate both through, and because of, employee engagement.He offers a well thought out and effective step-by-step plan to implement his ideas. Additionally after each chapter the author poses a number of questions to the reader.Though written for a business audience I think anyone who wants to lead or innovate would be well served by reading this book. I especially think this book has applications to the classroom.
