Written back when Pluto was in Scorpio,Martha has been examining the astrological meanings of many asteroids and shares her early thoughts. She gives basic keyword explanations, then gives some combination symbolism, so that you can find out what astraa and juno together may mean to you. It is unbelievable how much depth is in each of her books, and you may be surprised by the level she is willing to take you in order to learn this fascinating and revealing area of astrology. This year she has published her long awaited Angles and Prediction which is the grandmother of all delineations of asteroids, planets, and transneptunians. Because of her books, astrology has come alive for me. The layers of meaning are fascinating and fulfilling, and I highly recommend them all.
Although I recognise the scientific absurdity of astrology, it is still about the funniest topic existing, and its descriptions of personalities - even if never accurate - are actually quite useful if one can detach them from planetary positions.Interested in moving beyond the "nine planets" of late 20th century astrology, I have read a good deal about asteroids in astrology though information is hard to come by. (This has also led me to look more closely at astronomy and the asteroids can be quite interesting there too)."Mechanics of the Future: Asteroids" has been hailed by many critics as one of the finest books on astrology from the late twentieth century. However, though it looks in detail at many topics relating to asteroids and chart interpretation, it is really rather far-fetched and remote from practical application even for those who seriously believe in astrology (something astrology's limitless humour makes me do even when I know it's scientifically rubbish).The main fault of "Mechanics of the Future: Asteroids" is quite simply that it focuses on complicated chart patterns made by asteroids - many involving ones very rarely used in astrology and/or not significant astronomically (something I actually do take seriously doing astrology). The reader is thrown into this type of work without any chance of knowing how to cast charts, or about the orbits of the asteroids being used, or about their history - the list is too long.There is almost no focus on more significant sign or house interpretations, and rather too little on the meaning of individual asteroids so that the reader can gain an idea of what asteroids to use in doing his or her own work. With the ephemeris related to "Mechanics of the Future: Asteroids" impossible to find, this situation is made worse.On the positive side, "Mechanics of the Future: Asteroids" does contain a great deal of information in the appendices about the role of asteroids and the aspects they make to more widely-used planets. These are enlightening for professional astrologers, but I feel they should have been more prominent in the book if the author wanted to emphasise why asteroids were important."Mechanics of the Future: Asteroids" is an interesting but rather abstract and inaccessible work. If you want to use asteroids in astrology, I would recommend Asteroid Goddesses, despite that book's limited asteroid selection and dubious history.
This is Wescott's update to Witte's Planetary Pictures with many of tried and true asteroids: hildalgo, hopi, icarus, toro, siva and sisyphus to name just a very few.. She tries for too many cutesy images and slang, and compacts everything into tight passages so its hard to follow. It is self-published and as such needs a good editor. She gives a pages or two of "practice" with little explanation of the symbol. The paper like all of her books is coarse and yellow, not the easiest to read. After all of that, unfortunately, this is all there is so we must grin and bear...oh yeah like all astrologers she's a wild eyed liberal -- the more's the pity.
